It is already July, wow, I have been transported by a series of beautiful events. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported this year’s Move Move Collaborative gathering. It could not happen without you!
It has been a nourishing and robust experience so far this year. This year’s cohort is Oreolúwa Akinsanmi, Majid Araim, Ariel C. Foster, Jake Freeman, Talbolt Johnson, Lucifer, Peter Redgrave, Ashley Shey, Ọmọlará Williams-McAllister, and Emmett Wilson. It was invigorating to be back in Baltimore and moving with so many dynamic and visionary thinkers. We worked in a new space - Michele Blu’s Yoga Studio. We hosted some public facing workshops. We created a score together in six days, performed it on the seventh, and chilled on the eighth.
This year we slowed down and dug in. Shey reflected back a nugget that I am going to think with for a minute - “At Move Move, the rigor is in the communication.” That is true. It is a different kind of training, a different listening. It brings a different set of rewards.
Photographer Sydney Allen joined us for the performance. Check her work on IG - @_abaltimoregriot_ . Majid set up a video camera and I set up a recorder. There will be more documentation to follow. The sound recording will get a spotlight of its own. It was a transporting evening in large part to the incredible listening of Michele Blu, Che Davis, Orlando Johnson, and Bonnie Lander as they were joined by Ariel Foster, Jake Freeman, and Majid Araim. Stay tuned - it is really something to listen to!
Looking forward to all that the future holds for this project.
