The 2023 gathering

Hello everyone

There is an incredible group of people making there way towards Baltimore to begin crafting a score for performance. The people this year will be coming and going - so not everyone will be at the performance or at all the workshops. Here is this year’s cohort:
Oreolúwa Akinsanmi, Majid Araim (ATL), Lucifer (ATL), Ariel Foster, Jake Freeman, Talbolt Johnson, JAM, Peter Redgrave, Ashley Shey (MA), Matt Williams, Ọmọlará Williams McCallister & Emmett Wilson (PA)

They will be developing the score -  we have invited Michelle Blu, Che Davis, Orlando Johnson, and Bonnie Lander to be musical guests. The performance is going to be an incredible experience. Please join us.

Please be prepared to wear a mask and make a donation.

WORKSHOPS

2:30 - 5:00 PM on Tuesday, June 20th

Ọmọlará Williams McAllister will facilitate an Introduction to Capoeira.

at Michele Blu's Yoga studio 526 Oldham St, Baltimore, MD 21224

This intro class will expose participants to the basic movement vocabulary of capoeira. Capoeira is an AfroBrasilian cultural system that includes rhythmic martial movements, music, sung oral histories, and a variety of other cultural practices. Capoeira is unique in that it does not have age, weight, gender, ability, or other classes of any kind. Everyone is welcome to come train and play with everyone else!

7:00 - 9:00 PM on Wednesday, June 21st

Luciana Lucifer Arias will facilitate a Butoh and Improvisation class

at Michele Blu's Yoga studio 526 Oldham St, Baltimore, MD 21224

This class will share how to use tools from Butoh - the dance of darkness - in improvisational performance. Lucifer will facilitate an experience that offers music and movement. No experience necessary.
Please join us for this unique opportunity to take class with Lucifer, an Atlanta based performer.

2:30 - 5:00 PM on Thursday, June 22nd

Emmett Wilson will facilitate a workshop called Body Drama:

at Michele Blu's Yoga studio 526 Oldham St, Baltimore, MD 21224

Calling your inner diva to revel in BODY DRAMA: a class compiled of contemporary/lyrical/jazz dance class exercises that have informed Emmett’s ideas of love and its expression. Imagine you are center-stage, but the stage is a petri-dish, and you are looking at yourself through the microscope, but it’s no big deal- it’s just a play (on words, with yourself and others doing the same, only if y’all want to). This class is choose-your-own adventure, take it as you wish-  that could mean super actively, or as more of a witness, or some secret third mode of engagement. Warning: Emmett will be sharing a variety of open-ended movement prompts as well as some pre-structured movement to follow along and do (if you want) and at the end you will be invited to learn and form a relationship with A Phrase that we will repeat in unison and perform in smaller groups.

10:00 AM - 12:30 PM on Friday, June 23rd

Talbolt Johnson will facilitate a class on his Rhythm Body Culture Expression system

at Michele Blu's Yoga studio 526 Oldham St, Baltimore, MD 21224
Talbolt Johnson fuses street dance, mime, and performance art to tell stories. This workshop is an introduction to Talbolt’s current techniques and philosophies.

And Finally we will be performing in Baltimore on June 26th!

We will be presenting this year's score at 2640 space - a collectively run non-commercial space.

2640 St. Paul St. Baltimore, MD 2121

Doors will open at 7:00 PM and the performance will be fully underway at 8:00 PM.

This event will be sliding scale $10-25 NOTAFLOF
